1xRUN Thru Interview
Pump It Up by Indie

1xRun: Tell us a little bit about this original piece, what materials were used? Is it still for sale?
Indie:  I created this painting for ‘Wild at Heart’ in December of 2012 for my first solo show in Paris this past February. Enamel, spraypaint, paint markers, acrylic paint, found stickers, and paper on canvas. I also designed the stencils and cut them by hand. Yes, this piece is still available for sale through Galerie MathGoth.

1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?
Indie:  First I started laying out the foundation of the work. Painting my graffiti, tags and layering paint. The image comes almost at the third phase. When I create a series of works I usually have a set soundtrack and listen to the same songs over and over again. Music pumps my energy in the studio. I looked at some vintage images and decided to use a more contemporary female icon. I love Rhianna’s energy and her pose in the photograph.1xRun_Indie_Pump_It_Up_17x22_blog1xRun: How long did the piece take?
Indie:   Several days since I was also working on other paintings simultaneously. I don’t like to rush to finish a painting. I like to take my time when it speaks to me or I’m feeling it. So it all varies. Some present challenges and some are easy breezy. But eventually I have to stop and release it the work. I could keep going on forever with them.
1xRun: What is unique about this piece?
Indie:  All my paintings are one of a kind. They are what’s happening with me. What I’m feeling and thinking. My painting style is all freestyle – not planned. I usually create a series of paintings when I have something to say. This being part of the ‘Wild at Heart’ series, it represents youth, energy and sexuality.
1xRun: Why should people buy this print?
Indie:  Because it’s a print of an original one of a kind painting.

1xRun: Describe the piece in one gut reaction word.
Indie:  Electric.1xRun_Indie_Pump_It_Up_17x22_web01B1xRun: What have you been up to so far in 2013 ?
Indie:  Immediately after Paris, I had to create my largest paintings for the Völklingen Ironworks: Urban Art Biennial in Saarbrücken, Germany. Looking forward the Doyle’s New York: Street Art auction in April , one of my paintings will be on sale there.

1xRun: What else do you have on tap coming up for the rest of the year?
