Beastman Returns With “Visions of Primordial Evolution” A Stunning Geometric Print

1xRUN Thru Interview
Visions of Primordial Evolution by Beastman

1xRun: Tell us a little bit about this piece, is the original still for sale? Was it created solely for this release or was there an original piece created?
Beastman: This painting is one of the two larger pieces from my ‘Future Origins’ solo exhibition at Backwoods Gallery in Melbourne last year, the same body of work as the previous prints released with 1xRun last year. The painting sold at the exhibition.

1xRun: Was this piece part of a recent theme, series or show that you had? If so how did it fit into that given grouping?
Beastman: The ‘Future Origins’ exhibition was a further extension of my ongoing body of work, a new visual aesthetic and narrative universe, a continued exploration of a futuristic vision. The works depict a latent cosmical ecosystem of hope and survival, a world inhabited by new lifeforms whose supernatural origins are suggested through concentric symmetry, repetition and vibrant details. ‘Visions of Primordial Evolution’ was essentially the hero painting or the center piece of the exhibition.

1xRun: When was the piece created?
Beastman: May 2014.

1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?
Beastman: This painting generated itself organically out of geometry. It started with a measured grid layout, then the shapes, lines and forms all got worked out of the measurements. Then different aspects are repeated, mirrored or alternated throughout the painting. The core idea of the symmetry and the human profiles were developed in an initial pencil sketch up of the artwork, then other details were refined well into the actual painting, which is a patient process of layering acrylic paint followed by ink outlines, then more final acrylic details.

1xRun: How long did the piece take?
Beastman: 2-3 weeks.

1xRun: What is unique about this piece?
Beastman: There is a lot of work in this piece, I don’t think I have ever created a painting like this one, there are so many detailed pattern sections and interlocking shapes within the piece. The symmetry in this one was intense to get looking precise, but I stayed patient and managed to get the symmetry as accurate as possible. There are various lifeforms in the piece, some are more obvious than others.

1xRun: Why should people buy this print?
Beastman: This print will breath new life and energy into your space. Also I rarely release prints that are reproductions of paintings, usually my print editions are new and unique images created digitally. So these prints I am releasing with 1xRUN are actually quite different for me. Plus I have been told by a number of people that these works really trip you out while on hallucinogenic drugs!

1xRun: Describe the print in one gut reaction word.
Beastman: Acid.
