Copyright Discusses His Sailor Tattoo Inspired Prints

1xRun: Tell us a little bit about these prints, were they created from an original piece of artwork?
Copyright: I always like to revisit and re-imagine my own personal archive of imagery in new ways. This image is a reworking of a much larger piece I painted a couple of years back.

1xRun: Were these prints part of a recent theme, series or show that you had?
Copyright: Yeah, I did an exhibition last year that opened on Valentines Day which was called ‘One Red Rose Forever’. It’s an old Sailor Jerry tattoo phrase.

1xRUN: What materials were used to create these prints with?
Copyright: These are Acrylic and spray paint.

1xRun: How long did these prints take to complete?
Copyright: Probably 6 weeks start to finish. Not continuously working of course, but I don’t always fully plan my editions. I just start with an idea, do a bit then see what else it needs to improve until it’s done. Basically working to what the image dictates.

1xRun: What do you feel is unique about these prints?
Copyright: Each one is handmade and slightly unique.

1xRun: Tell us a bit about your process and where your inspiration comes from?
Copyright: I’m always thinking, if my paintings were songs what would they sound like? Often I’ll be listening to a song and it’ll give me an idea for a painting. All it takes is a phrase, or sometimes I’ll come up with a particular profound emotion and try to depict it as an image in the same way a musician would in a song.

1xRun: Describe these prints in one gut reaction word.
Copyright: Pure.
