Doctor Eye’s Fear & Loathing In HollyWeird

1xRUN Thru Interview
Fear The Loathing In Hollyweird Original Artwork

1xRun: Tell us a little bit about these original pieces, are they part of a recent theme?
Doctor Eye:  This series relates to what a good friend and I call “Spirits.” I feel like right now in Los Angeles there’s an explosion of weird breeds wondering around and they’re completely high on something. Everything is changing in such a dynamic way in Los Angeles that things just aren’t the same as they used to be here.

1xRun: What materials were used to create these pieces? When were they created?
Doctor Eye: These were made with a mix of ink, white acrylic paint, Nova Paint and Fluorescent Theme paint. I started these around October 2014, I finished them all around mid-February 2015.

1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?
Doctor Eye: I feel that growing up in Hollyweird and being in the center of the media capital of the world, it has always had a shadow of alcohol and drugs. These characters represent me seeing all the dilution of the rat race.  All the thoughts that are evolved in one city, as well as political failures, that it truly can create one hell of an imagination. Also seeing Tim Burton’s work mixed with Salvador Dali. Ralph Steadman has also always made me push my imagination as far as possible.

1xRun: How long did these pieces take?
Doctor Eye: Each piece varied different times, the one stroke spatter drawings take minutes but if I messed up they’re burned. The more detailed work takes at the least two weeks to complete.

1xRun: What is unique about this series compared to your other work?
Doctor Eye: These are more expressionist pieces, especially with so many political things going on out there in this strange world. I guess you can say that this is an interpretation of an artist’s imagination.
