1x: Tell us a bit about this piece, was it part of a recent them of work, show or series of work you recently did?
Scott Hove: This piece started out as a three dimensional sculpture called ICED for my Guns and Ecstasy show at Hashimoto Contemporary gallery in San Francisco. It had a quality that needed to be further investigated, possibly the cold icy hand it was pried from.

1x: What materials were used to create this piece?
Scott Hove: I used an airsoft uzi and my secret fake frosting recipe to make the original piece. The graphic was hand inked on film, old school style.

1x: When was the piece drawn and created?
Scott Hove: 2014 for the sculpture, 2015 for the graphic.

1x: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?
Scott Hove: I love doing imagery that explores the use, political polarization, fetishization, and misuse of guns, especially in a way with humor and satire.

1x: How long did the piece take?
Scott Hove: Doing the ink took about a day. I haven’t done any graphic work in a while so I had to dig out my brushes and film ink to get this thing done. No computers were involved in creating the art.

1x: What is unique about this piece?
Scott Hove: It’s immediate pop impact. I want to see it have it’s own life in the world/

1x: Why should people buy one of these prints?
Scott Hove: It’s so icy fresh everybody is going to want to shoot you for it.

1x: Describe these pieces in one gut reaction word.
Scott Hove: OOOOHSOICY.

1x: When did you first start making art?
Scott Hove: In the 4th grade after my baby sitter drew a sick face on paper with a pencil. I became obsessed and haven’t stopped being obsessed with making original work from that day on

1x: What artists inspired you early on?
Scott Hove: The first major influence was MC Escher, who I discovered along with hashish during a high school outing. There have been many more influences since but that event really shaped me, for better or worse.

1x: What artists inspire you now?
Scott Hove: Too many to list.

1x: Do you listen to music while you work? If so what? If not then what is your environment like when you work?
Scott Hove: I listen to classical Persian or traditional Hawaiian when I’m in a mellow mood, doom and black metal when I’m trying to push my boundaries and destroy the dumb habits that make me settle for average results.

1x: If you could collaborate with any living artist who would it be and why?
Scott Hove: I’m such a control freak it’s hard for me to collaborate.

1x: If you could collaborate with any deceased artists who would it be and why?
Scott Hove: The guy who painted the frescoes in the Duomo in Florence. He could teach me about technique and I could design some pretty rad hell scenes.
