1xRUN: Tell us a little bit about this piece, anything immediate you would like us to highlight about this image?
Turf One: This is a portrait of Conan, a Presa Canario…this piece combines two themes which have been rather prominent in my work for a while: dogs and knife-wielding Russian gangsters.
1x: When was this piece created and what materials were used?
Turf One: The materials used for the original painting are oil and acrylic on panel. I painted this piece over the summer and early fall 2017.
1x: How long did each of this image take to create from start to finish?
Turf One: I would say I probably spent about 150 hours on that piece…
1x: What is unique about this piece compared with your other work?
Turf One: Conan has a pretty unique face to begin with. This was also my first gangster dog ! lol
1x: Describe this image in one gut reaction word.
Turf One: Vor. (Russian “Thief in Law”)
1x: It’s been a little bit since our last release with you, bring us up to speed on what you’ve been up to over the few months to wrap up 2017 and start the new year?
Turf One: I just curated a show in Melbourne Australia, at BeinArt Gallery, with Dan Witz, Shawn Barber, El Gato Chimney, Peter Ferguson and Mike Davis. I am currently working on some new paintings…
1x: What are some of the ways you have been trying to push yourself with your work over the last year?
Turf One: I have gotten gradually more and more involved in the battle against Breed Specific Legislation (Pit Bull bans) over the past couple of years through murals, T-shirts, prints, various fundraisers and partnering up with organizations such as the Montreal SPCA, Humane Society International, Pinups For Pitbulls…
1x: What are some strides you feel you’ve made in your work recently?
Turf One: I think being able to use my work to help saving dogs lives has been very gratifying and has given it a whole new meaning for me…
1x: What was the last piece of art that you bought?
Turf One: The latest addition to my collection is a print which was given to me by my dear friend and fellow artist Martin Wittfooth.
