Vans The Omega Returns With Angles Of Elevation

1xRUN Thru Interview
Angles Of Elevation by Vans The Omega

1xRun: Tell us a little bit about this piece, was there an original created or was this just for print?

Vans The Omega: I created the original for my recent solo show “Into The Light” in Sydney, Australia knowing that I would also make it a featured print on 1xRUN. Visually this work came together through a series of visions that I have strived to fulfill. The dimension of this piece was my greatest challenge while giving a mixture of etheric and harder edges to push and pull the eye through the space so that harmony is met.

1xRun: Was this piece part of a recent  theme, series or show that you had?

Vans The Omega:  My recent solo show “Into the Light” was the inspiration behind the latest body of work, which was a fusion of my strict geometric works combined with figurative elements. ‘Angles of Elevation’ was my prize geometric piece of the show and is the amalgamation of the past 7 years of trial and error, research and development painting geometric illusion within my fine art works both in the studio and on large scale walls.

1xRun: When was this piece created and what materials were used?
Vans The Omega: This piece was created in May of 2014. Acrylic and spray paints, along with wood stain, varnish and etching were all combined to create this work
.

1xRun: How long did the piece take?

Vans The Omega:  I spent 5 long days on this work before I was satisfied with the final artwork.

1xRun: What is unique about this piece?
Vans The Omega:  Perhaps the mixture of colour and divided composition is the most unique part of this piece and that it is painted in a freestyle manner with no prior drawings or sketches. I let visions guide me through the process to the end point.

1xRun: Why should people buy this print?

Vans The Omega:  I think this piece represents discovery within and the journey we make during life. The science behind geometry in the healing arts isn’t readily taught but is something I have spent many years studying and being open to on a personal and professional level. My belief and knowing of the healing power that Art creates is a large goal of my practice in Art, both for others and myself alike. Apart from the piece serving an aesthetic appeal, the greatest aim is to reveal something about yourself while taking in the work.

1xRun: Describe this piece in one gut reaction word.
Vans The Omega:  Expansive.

1xRun: Bring us up to speed on what you’ve been up to since our last release, what have you been up to in 2014 so far?

Vans The Omega:  I started off the year with a massive installation work with my brother Hitnes from Rome in Adelaide, South Australia which covered 55m x 6m expanse of wall. Then headed off to Perth for the ‘PUBLIC’ event showcasing 45 Artists from around the globe in the heart of Perth. Carbon Festival invited me over to Melbourne to paint and install works for the Adidas latest shoe release ’ZX Flux’ for the worldwide release party.

After that I returned home to Adelaide to work solidly on my sold out solo show  ’Into the Light’ in Sydney before flying out to Dublin, Belfast, Copenhagen, Roskilde, Limerick for a range of projects including ‘All City Jam’, ‘Roskilde Festival’, ‘Make A Move’ and Limericks largest Art/cultural event Draw out festival. Form WA invited Beastman and myself back to Perth for another Public mural after the success of our earlier collaborative work this year. Right now I am in Bali and will land home to work on a number of projects both in Australia and US before the year is done.

1xRun: Any big recent murals or new works that you want to highlight?
Vans The Omega:  I think my solo work in Limerick this June for Draw Out Festival and the recent wall at 140 Perth for the 2nd installment for Public Perth have been my stand out projects this year mainly because of there scale and execution.

1xRun: Any upcoming shows or events coming up that you’d like to share?
Vans The Omega:  Wow, I wish I could tell you what the rest of this year entails, but at this point they are all in planning stage so I don’t want to jump the gun. The largest project I can talk about now is coming up in my home city, which is close to 2500sqm in size and will take 1 month to complete. It’s looking like Jakarta, Dubai and possibly back to Europe are on the cards before Christmas.
