1xRUN:  What materials was the origianl printed on/drawn with? Is the original still for sale?

Yosuke Ueno: The original piece was created in 2011.  It was painted on canvas with acrylics.

1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?

Yosuke Ueno:  The name of the character “efiL” is a reverse-spelling word for Life, and the character is the symbol of life and nature. I love to go hiking and experiences at mountains always inspire me to create. Walking mountains has been every weekend habit for me. I trek my neighbor mountains every weekend and love to see the Mt. Fuji, the highest mountain in Japan, from where I am. All the time I take the air and the sound of mountains back to my studio with me. Those elements make my mind clear and I really love to work with the atmosphere of mountains.

1xRun: What is unique about this piece?

Yosuke Ueno:  It is difficult to explain with words because I express all what I would like to say in the piece. Words are not enough to explain my piece. So just feel it as you like.

1xRun: Why should people buy this print?

Yosuke Ueno:  It would be a pleasure for me if you hang it on your wall just like evergreen flower.

1xRun: Describe the print in one gut reaction word.

Yosuke Ueno:  Life and Death.

1xRun: When did you first start making art?

Yosuke Ueno:  Every little child naturally comes to take pens and starts drawing. I had not been the exception. But there was a difference between my friends and me, that is; I had been keeping drawing even after my friends stopped drawing. I felt so satisfied when my classmates liked my drawings and words from friends had been a big motivation for me then.

1xRun: What was your first piece?

Yosuke Ueno:  Do you remember the very first drawing that you had draw when you were a child? My answer is probably the same as yours.

1xRun: What artists inspired you early on?

Yosuke Ueno:    I’ve been influenced and inspired by Japanese subcultures such as manga or advertisement for ever since I was born and have been grown up in Japan.

1xRun: What artists inspire you now?

Yosuke Ueno:  I am rather inspired by Japanese subcultures than any particular artist today.

1xRun: Do you listen to music while you work? If so what? If not then what is your environment like when you work?

Yosuke Ueno:  Yes. I am listening to break beats when I work for today.

1xRun: If you could collaborate with any living artist who would it be and why?

Yosuke Ueno:  I’ve never thought about collaborating with other artists.

1xRun: What was the first piece of art that you bought? Do you still have it?

Yosuke Ueno:  Osamu Tezuka’s manga. But I have just discarded it the other day!

1xRun: What was the last piece of art that you bought?

Yosuke Ueno:  Japanese hip hop CD. That is a great art.

1xRun: What else do you have in the works?

Yosuke Ueno:   I am going to participate in an art fair in German this autumn, and have a group show in Hong Kong.
