Naturel presents an entirely new body of work with Some Magazines Under The Mattress or S.M.U.T. which will open tonight October 15th at Joseph Gross Gallery. With nearly 50 new mixed media paintings, S.M.U.T. pays homage to classic gentleman’s magazine covers with visual notes from the masters of pop art. These new works recall childhood dreams and seductive centerfolds with a clean cut veneer of sophistication through Naturel’s signature blend of cubism and surrealism. Opening October 24th from 1-7pm, 1xRUN in collaboration with Jeff Staple will take over New York City’s Reed Space for an exhibition of exclusive fine art editions and hand-painted multiples by Detroit based publisher featuring new work from Ricky Powell, Anthony Lister, Kevin Lyons, Naturel, Mimi Yoon and Prefab77 as well as hand-picked releases by Jeff Staple.  You can find out more info and RSVP on Facebook here.

Beau Stanton and Logan Hicks open their two-person show Calm Before The Storm on October 17th at New York City’s Highline Loft.  Taking inspiration from nautical superstition, flood myths, classical paintings, life changing events and the modern issue of rising seas, the artists have created new paintings, multiples, and a site-specific installation of a reconstructed ship and captain’s study. The exhibition and installation will be set to an original score by Luv Jonez.

The following week 1xRUN will also host All Hands On Deck, where Logan Hicks will be hand-stenciling prints and Beau Stanton will be there hand-embellishing prints. Taking place on Saturday, October 24th at Littlefield in the Gowanus neighborhood of Brooklyn, The Gold Rush Awards will open the fourth annual night dedicated to celebrating cutting-edge art, music, fashion and culture. Each honoree will receive a unique award designed and handmade by Cey Adams.

GoldRush combines the visual arts and nightlife into a single event, grounded in the culture of hip-hop. It features an awards presentation, music by renowned DJs, an art exhibition and an open bar in a party atmosphere attended by over 300 tastemakers. Brett Amory opens his latest exhibition This Land Is Not For Sale: Forgotten, Past and Foreseeable Futures on October 15th at Jonathan Levine Gallery.  In his latest works Amory paints a visually gorgeous protest against the transformation of New York’s famed Lower East Side into a gentrified wasteland.
