1xRUN Thru Interview
Denialex This Isn’t Happening by Ben Frost + Denial = DENIALEX

1xRun: Tell us a little bit about these pieces, were they created solely for this release or was there an original piece created?
Ben Frost + Denial: The original version was created as a screen print in 2013. “This is the latest collaboration between Denial and Ben Frost using the pseudonym ‘Denialex’. This print refers to the way someone would go through an emotional break up, and how they would be in denial of the situation, needing a new kind of medication to get them through the experience.

1xRun: Were these pieces part of a recent theme, series or show that you had? If so how did they fit into that given grouping?
Ben Frost + Denial: We presented one of the A.P.s at DAX Gallery in California at a Valentines Day exhibition in 2013. I think people really enjoyed our take on “LOVE”.

1xRUN: What materials were used to create these pieces with?
Ben Frost + Denial: These are done all with aerosol through stencils and masking on wood panel.

1xRun: When was the piece created and how long did it take to complete?
Ben Frost + Denial: We created this piece originally in early 2013. The original drawing took a few days, to paint the 24 paintings took about 3 weeks with 3 of us working on them. Each one is unique in its own light.

1xRun: Anything immediate you would like us to highlight?
Ben Frost + Denial: We have been kicking around an idea of making a DENIALEX website, but still not sure if we will yet. Going to California for a few months, we have a free studio to work out of so keep your eyes peeled down there for some public pieces!

1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?
Ben Frost + Denial: We work back and forth making edits to the composition and design of the piece. This piece went through about 10 edits and took a few days to draw out.

1xRun: What do you feel are unique about these pieces?
Ben Frost + Denial: Each piece is created individually and is very unique even next to its counterpart. So yes it is an edition, but really they are one of a kind pieces as well!

1xRun: Why should people buy these pieces?
Ben Frost + Denial: I think a lot of people can relate with the pain of breaking up and the need to find a resolution to be able to move on with their lives. It’s so tough but most of us get through it.

1xRun: Describe these pieces in one gut reaction word.
Ben Frost + Denial: “Sigh”
