We welcome back San Francsico artist Erik Otto as he returns with his latest edition Waves Of Change. Otto’s latest comes as part of the 2016 POW! WOW! Hawaii x 1xRUN print suite. Read on Otto gives us the lowdown on his newest edition…
1xRUN: Tell us a little bit about this piece, anything immediate you would like us to highlight?
Erik Otto:
The original painting was 1 of 4 pieces in a series in conjunction to a specific body of work for a solo exhibition in 2014, Rising Tides. The theme was overall inspired by tension and change, as well as hope and creativity using the metaphor of the ocean as life. Adding to the immersive art experience, I curated award-winning musician Deru and local DJs who all gave live performances within a site-specific installation under the same theme.
1x: Was this piece part of a recent theme, series or show that you had? If so how did it fit into that given grouping?
Erik Otto: Acrylic, spray paint and mixed media on canvas.
1x: When was the piece originally created?
Erik Otto: 2014.
1x: Describe this piece with one gut reaction word.
Erik Otto: Overflow.

1x: What have your past experiences been with POW!WOW! Hawaii?
Erik Otto: Jumped on board in 2012 with no ladders and very little paint supply to create my first mural. The entire process was organic and made for a great piece in the end. Then in 2013, I was officially invited back to create a much larger piece I titled Chasing The Sun which was about doing what you love.
1x: What’s your schedule looking like for 2016? Any big shows or events coming up that you’d like to share?
Erik Otto: All new everything. New website, new directions in my work, new profile video, new company launch, and expanding my art career to NYC.
1xRUN: Where else can people find you?
