1xRun: Tell us a little bit about this piece, is the original still for sale?
Jason Robert Snyder: The original painting is oil on wood panel, 14”x18” with an antique frame that I rebuilt and refinished. It is for sale and I have other pieces available as well here on 1xRUN.
1xRun: Was this piece part of a recent theme, series or show that you had?
Jason Robert Snyder: The piece was painted as part of a show that I did with C. Emerson Fine Arts for Scope Art Fair in Miami this past December.
1xRUN: What materials did you use to create this piece with?
Jason Robert Snyder: Oil paint on wood panel.
1xRun: When was the piece created and how long did it take to complete?
Jason Robert Snyder: I worked on this piece for a couple of months in 2013 along with a few others.
1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?
Jason Robert Snyder: It started with a simple vision I had while watching a woodpecker in my back yard. I saw a bird attached to a person and then the idea started to build around that. I began to think about how our government here in the United States as well as other governments use and abuse the law in creative ways to extract information from those that they deem useful. I imagined how the woodpecker might be used as a tool by an interrogator to extract information. Then it occurred to me that it might be even more appropriate if the bird represented the interrogator pecking indiscriminately to extract kernels of information.
1xRun: What is unique about this piece?
Jason Robert Snyder: What’s unique about it for my work is the composition and color choices.
1xRun: Why should people buy this print?
Jason Robert Snyder: Hopefully, because it moves them in some way.
1xRun: Describe the piece in one gut reaction word.
Jason Robert Snyder: Pecked.
1xRun: You’ve been staying busy since our last release, Things We Hold Dear. Bring us up to speed on what you’ve been up to.
Jason Robert Snyder: Aside from trying to get situated in a new home and studio and trying to raise a small child, I’ve been doing a lot of gallery shows throughout the U.S. I have also been fortunate enough to show in several art fairs in the in the U.S. as well as Basel, Switzerland with C Emerson Fine Arts. 
1xRun: We talked a bit about it in Miami, but how did your fascination start with incorporating hair into your pieces?
Jason Robert Snyder: I find hair to be quite expressive and I think for me it’s a great way to get ideas across in as subtle (or not) a way as I see fit.
1xRun: Why do you feel it has stuck with your work?
Jason Robert Snyder: I think because it’s just so adaptable in style and texture to accommodate and punctuate any idea that I am working on.
1xRun: You recently made a move from Miami, how has that affected your work?
Jason Robert Snyder: About a year and a half ago, we moved from Miami to the west coast of Florida in Fort Myers. It’s quite a change. I have a private studio in the middle of a jungle in my back yard, so I am alone with my thoughts and nature most days. I think every change in life has an impact on my process and content of my work. I think it’s still too early to see where this will all lead my work.
1xRun: How did 2013 wrap up for you and how has 2014 been so far?
Jason Robert Snyder: I wrapped up 2013 with a successful show with C. Emerson at Scope Miami, and so far this year, I have some commission work along with some art shows and art fairs planned. Things are good.
1xRun: Any upcoming shows, events or projects you’d like to highlight?
Jason Robert Snyder: I will be showing again with C Emerson Fine Arts at Scope New York in March. I have an original drawing in a show called “Penumbra” at Matrix Fine Art in Albuquerque, NM in March as well.
